Workshop Melbourne

A retail fit-out in a historically protected interior, Collins St, Melbourne, built in 2000. The brief required an entirely freestanding fit-out that would not require any alteration of the existing building fabric. The space was shared with another New Zealand retailer Zambesi. The two areas were separated with a translucent glass screen in starfire glass and polished chrome. These same materials were used for sales counters, racks, and mannequin stands. All joinery pieces relied on mechanical fixings (countersunk allen head sockets) to join flat bar sections to create each item. A number of original mid-century lights were sourced from France along with some original ‘60s Kjaerholm PK22 chairs.
