Jar Gallery

The name Jar Gallery comes from Wallace Stevens poem ‘Anecdote of the Jar', a poem that sets out the contrast between the perfect jar interior and the feral world around. Our idea was to leave the building exterior in its rough run down state and then create a perfect clean interior. The transition was to be a pristine polished stainless steel window reveal, not unlike the ring of a preserving jar. The project did not quite get built as we had intended, the stainless steel never made it, and now the building exterior is cleaned up and painted white. Nevertheless it is quite an alien entity in its suburban setting, which prompts the intended curiosity. Upon close inspection Stephen Bambury’s ‘Room for Reflection’ installation, provides another enigmatic layer to the experience.
